The Pylon Player of the Week segment highlighting the top player performances each week during the 2017 football season. Each player selected for the coveted Player of the Week award will be a Pylon Alum who has appeared in past Pylon 7on7 events. These former players are handpicked from Pylon’s list of over 1,500 student-athletes who have played Division I college football and over 175 professional players who have earned their way onto an NFL roster.
Devin Funchess is Pylon Player of the Week for the NFL’s Week 10. The Carolina Panthers WR came alive on Monday Night Football against the Miami Dolphins, catching five passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns.
Funchess was tapped as a Pylon Fantasy Start for Week 10 and did not disappoint. His 21.20 fantasy points are a season’s best for the Panthers WR. In his third year of action, he has already matched his personal best regular season touchdown total (5) and is two touchdowns from surpassing his rookie season TD mark.
The former Michigan Wolverine has benefitted tremendously since Kelvin Benjamin was shipped to the Buffalo Bills via trade. Since Benjamin’s departure, Cam Newton and Funchess have emerged as the NFL’s newest offensive tandem.
The Panthers head into the bye week on a three game winning streak and will return to face the New York Jets during Thanksgiving weekend. In his next game, Funchess will be looking for his first 100-yard receiving game of the season against the league’s #16 ranked passing defense.
Over the past couple of games, Devin Funchess has quietly transformed before our eyes into the Panthers' #1 receiving target and new leader of the Panthers receiving corps. What a difference a couple of weeks makes.
